Newtown have announced that first team manager Scott Ruscoe has left the club “with immediate effect”.
Then former player was appointed manager in January when he took over from Chris Hughes, but a shock exit at the hands of Llanwchllyn last month in the Welsh Cup put his job under pressure.
Newtown are ninth in the top flight with five wins from 15 league games this season.
Callum Mackenzie will step up internally to take interim charge of the first team, starting with this Friday’s trip to Aberystwyth.
“We would like to thank Scott for all of his hard work and dedication during his time at the club, and wish him all the very best for the future,” a Newtown statement said.
Local football fans have already started speculating who could be the next manager, with several pointing to Gavin Allen as a possible replacement. Allen has moved to Guilsfield and last week stepped down from his management position with second tier club Pontypridd, due to the amount of travelling involved.
