Thousands raised as staff members remembered

One of the area’s more colourful fund raisers this summer has raised a whopping £6,500, as the community came together to remember two lost staff members from the local school.

Bro Caereinion has taken part in the Cancer UK Race for Life for 12 years and raised an incredible £37,218.34 in total, with the latest event last month - Byw mewn Lliw/Live in Colour – boosting the total to £6,500.

“Following a difficult few years having lost two members of staff to cancer, we decided to give our day a new title – Byw mewn Lliw - Live in Colour,” a spokesperson said.

“It’s a day to remember, to support, and to raise money. A day to remind ourselves that we need to make the most of every opportunity and appreciate the people around us.”

And make the most of it they did. Pupils were also invited to take part in the day from Ysgol Cwm Banwy, Ysgol Gymraeg y Trallwng, Dafydd Llwyd, Rhiwbechan and Pontrobert by organising their own 5k race at each primary school site.

Reception learners up to sixth formers helped to organise the day with a blaze of colour splashed across the schools and, despite the rain, everyone had a lot of fun and did their schools proud.

The charity to benefit this year is Montgomeryshire Lingen Davies.

“This is an outstanding achievement for those who took part and a true reflection of our pupil’s and staff’s determination. We are already keen to organise this event next year, watch this space,” said the spokesperson.

Charities that have benefited in the past

Cancer Research, Lingen Davies Centre, Birmingham Children's Hospital, 'Harry Johnson Trust' which offers help and support to children and teenagers receiving treatment in the Oncology Unit at Telford Hospital, Wales Air Ambulance, British Heart Foundation and Hope House.
