Flats plan backed by town council

Plans to convert a well-known property in Newtown from 15 bedits to 13 flats have been backed by town councillors.

A planning application has been submitted to Powys County Council to convert Nythfa and Tyr Y Bobol on New Road by Mid Wales Properties.

Town councillors commented on the plans on Monday night as part of the consultation on the plans.

Cllr Chris Jones said the planning application would enhance the property. He said it had previously been used for emergency accommodation and there had been anti social behaviour in the area.

He added that the flats would provide affordable housing.

Members of the town council's Economy and Environment Committee supported the plans which will now be considered by Powys County Council's planning department.
