A survey of Newtown's historic buildings has been completed and the latest book chronicling its past is being published.

Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council has announced the launch of the latest volume in the Explore Newtown series by the Newtown and District Civic Society.

The town council supported the project with a Community Grant of £1,000.

The third volume of Explore Newtown marks the completion of the society's survey of the town's buildings, focusing on the area south of the centre.

"From the town's 19th century growth to its resurgence in the 1960s, this book chronicles Newtown's evolution through vivid descriptions and
captivating photographs," said a statement.

Local naturalist and broadcaster, Iolo Williams, praises the book as "a real gem" highlighting its documentation of significant historical events and disappearing landmarks.

"Whether you're a history enthusiast, a proud Newtonian, or simply enjoy beautifully illustrated books, this publication is a must-have for your collection," added the town council statement.

The society has invited the public to join them for the book launch and lecture by Edward Parry at the Crescent Christian Centre on March 12th at 7.30pm.

The book will be available for purchase at various locations including Oriel Davies, Hafan yr Afon, Waste Not Shop, Newtown Library, Textile Museum, and the Town Council Office.
