Investigations continue into fatal road crash

Police are continuing their investigations into the weekend's fatal road accident on the A483 between Newtown and Welshpool.

Two people were arrested following the Belan accident close to Berriew.

Police are yet to name the person who died in a car while a child in the same vehicle was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

It is understood the deceased is from the area and is expected to be named today.

Dyfed Powys Police said: "The collision, involving three cars—a red BMW X3, a blue Audi S4, and a white Toyota Yaris occurred on the A483 at Belan at approximately 6.15pm.

"The red BMW and the blue Audi were travelling northbound, while the white Toyota was travelling in the opposite direction.

"Sadly, the driver of the white Toyota Yaris died at the scene. A child passenger of the same car was air lifted to hospital with serious injuries. HM coroner and next of kin is aware. Specially trained police officers are supporting their family."

The statement added: "One man, aged 29 years has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving. A second man, aged 33 years has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving."

The road was closed overnight while specialist collision investigators carried out their enquiries. It re-opened at 9.50am on Sunday.
