Volunteers are needed to help ensure this year's Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day events can go ahead in Newtown.

The town council has issued a plea for people to come forward to help.

The council said in a statement: "Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn council has issued a call for volunteers to help with the town’s commemoration events for Remembrance Sunday, November 10th, and Armistice Day, Monday, November 11th.

"Volunteers will be expected to assist with operating the road closures required for the parade and ceremony. "

The timings required for assistance are approximately 10am until 12.15pm on Sunday and 10.55am to 11.15am on Monday.

Ed Humphreys, Town Clerk, said: “We are looking for volunteer stewards to assist with the road closure for Remembrance Sunday 10th November and Armistice Day 11th November without whom closures may not be permitted.  If you feel you'd like to contribute in this way to the community's collective effort on those days, please get in touch with the town council."

Anyone who can support the events can contact townclerk@newtown.org.uk
