Fans of Newtown Football Club are waiting for news after long serving clubman and recently appointment manager Callum McKenzie was fired with the club on the edge of relegation.
A disappointing run if results under McKenzie’s short tenure has left the Robins set for the drop with fellow Mid Walians, Aberystwyth Town, and he is the third managerial change in 18 months at Latham Park.
The club said it was alrerady looking to rebuild, probably in Tier 2, the same league as Guilsfield and Caersws, and would be revealing a new strategy soon.
In the meantime, the fans are left asking who’s next for the Latham Park hot seat?
Statement:
Newtown AFC has agreed to part ways with First Team Manager Callum McKenzie.
This season has presented significant challenges for the club, and while a slim mathematical possibility of retaining Cymru Premier status remains, this provides the Board an opportunity to begin a wider strategic review and provide ample time to appoint a new manager ahead of the next campaign.
This change is seen as a crucial step in laying the foundations for a long-term rebuild. Callum has been a key figure at Newtown AFC for over a decade, having served with distinction as Assistant First Team Manager and later as Technical Director. His dedication, professionalism, and deep commitment to the club have left a lasting impact, both on and off the pitch.
Everyone at Newtown AFC would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Callum for his outstanding contribution over the years. He leaves with our utmost respect and best wishes for the future.
Callum and his family will always be welcome at Latham Park.
