An 81-run seventh-wicket stand helped to keep Newtown’s Shropshire Division One title hopes on track with a 33-run victory over Worfield.

Deciding to bat backfired with early wickets tumbling, but Griff Davies (41) and Sam Cooke (43) paired up to ensure Newtown reached a respectable 167.

David Laird (4-29) and Marco Malan (4-15) then tore through the Worfield batting to reduce them to 134 all out.

Shaun Randall (97), Sam Williams (54) and Andrew Barker (41) all piled on the runs as Montgomery posted 285-9 against border rivals Alberbury in Division Two.

Wickets were then shared by five bowlers with two apiece as Monty skittled out their visitors for just 113 in reply.

Welshpool are right in the Division Three title mix after hammering leaders Wheaton Aston by 88 runs.

Opener Sam Cadwallader top scored with 49 as Welshpool set a steady 165 target, but that soon became out of reach with Charlie Kinsey (3-12) leading the way as Aston were restricted to 77 all out.

The less said about Guilsfield & Llandrinio’s trip to Willey the better, with their recent return to form brutally ended by a nine-wicket defeat.

If it hadn’t been for the wag in the tail from Dave Jones (26) and Lewis Todd (18) it would have been a lot worse, with the Guils reduced to just 129 all out batting first. The hosts cruised home with just one wicket lost.

Craig Davies and Evan Smout took three wickets each in Newtown II’s comfortable five-wicket win at Church Stretton.

The pair combined to reduce the hosts to 121 all out, allowing opener Matt Knight (54no) to lead the way to victory and keep Newtown II in second spot in Division Four.

Dave Moody struck an unbeaten 50 to set Llanidloes on their way to victory against Frankton II in Division Four.

Llanidloes posted 173-8 before Rob Davies 4-23 led the demolition of the visiting batting which ended on 125.

Despite Dan Chodecki (87) helping Welshpool II set a monster target of 236-3 for Calverhall to chase, they succumb to a Division Six defeat by six wickets with their hosts winning in the 38th over.

Montgomery II moved into mid-table comfort above Welshpool II following a 66-run victory at Ludlow III.

Keelan Serjeant set the tone with 52 not out as Monty posted a first innings total of 239-6, well out of reach for the hosts who finished on 173.

All-rounder Garry Foster made history on Saturday by becoming the first Guilsfield & Llandrinio II player to hit a century.

Foster hit his first 100 for the club, and in-form Jinil Thilakan made 54 as the 2nds posted an impressive 239-7 from their 40 overs against Pontesbury II at the LHG Oval.

Wickets were then shared around six bowlers as they reduced their visitors to 189 all out to end a run of defeats and bolster their Division Seven mid-table spot.
