Newtown and District Male Voice Choir has donated £2,000 to Lingen Davies Cancer Support following a year of community fundraising.
Choir members presented the cheque to Shirley Woosnam, representing the charity, during a recent rehearsal evening.
Lingen Davies Cancer Support was the choir’s chosen charity over the past year, with the money raised through raffles, fundraising concerts, Christmas carol singing and other activities.
A choir spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be able to donate £2,000 to Lingen Davies Cancer Support.
“Cancer has touched the lives of so many of us, either directly or through family and friends, and we are incredibly grateful for the fantastic work the charity does in supporting people across our communities.”
The spokesperson thanked everyone who had contributed to the fundraising campaign by attending concerts, buying raffle tickets, supporting the choir’s carol singing or taking part in its other activities.
The presentation marked the culmination of a busy year for the choir and highlighted the strong relationship between community groups and charities supporting people affected by cancer.
Members are now taking a summer break before appearing at Newtown Food Festival on Saturday, September 5, at 2.30pm.
The choir is also looking for new members and welcomes men who enjoy singing or would like to experience the camaraderie of performing in a male voice choir.
A new members’ evening will be held at Hafan yr Afon in Newtown on Tuesday, September 8, at 7.30pm. Both experienced singers and those who have never previously sung in a choir are welcome.
