A Newtown primary school has been praised for its strong Welsh ethos, pupil wellbeing and caring learning environment following an Estyn inspection.
Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd has received a positive inspection report, with inspectors finding that nearly all pupils feel safe, happy and valued at the school.
The Welsh medium primary school was particularly praised for the way it develops pupils' confidence in speaking Welsh, despite very few arriving at the school already able to speak the language.
Estyn found that most pupils develop their Welsh skills well and use the language with increasing confidence in a range of creative contexts.
Inspectors also highlighted strong relationships between staff and pupils, effective leadership and the school's work to create an inclusive and nurturing environment.
Two areas of the school's work were identified as examples of effective practice.
Its 'Gwener Gwych' sessions bring together pupils of different ages to develop life skills, confidence and wellbeing through activities including first aid, cooking and caring for animals.
The school's 'Criw Cymraeg' was also praised for using digital platforms and engaging with the wider community to encourage pupils, families and staff to use Welsh more confidently and strengthen pride in Welsh culture and identity.
Estyn also recognised the school's wellbeing provision, positive reading culture, support for pupils with additional learning needs and its relationships with parents and the wider community.
Almost all pupils demonstrated commendable behaviour and positive attitudes towards learning.
The report makes two recommendations for further improvement.
The school has been asked to provide greater challenge and more opportunities for pupils to make meaningful choices about their learning, as well as strengthen planning to ensure clear progression in numeracy skills.
Cllr James Gibson-Watt, Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, said: "This is a very positive report that recognises the dedication and hard work of the entire school community. Estyn has highlighted many strengths, particularly the school's success in promoting the Welsh language and culture while ensuring pupils feel supported, valued and able to achieve their potential.
"Creating a Stronger, Fairer, Greener Powys starts with giving our young people the best possible opportunities to learn and succeed. I would like to congratulate the pupils, staff, governors and families on this excellent outcome and look forward to seeing the school build on its many strengths."
Headteacher Darryn Green said: "We are delighted that Estyn has recognised the strengths of our school, particularly our commitment to Welsh-medium education, pupil wellbeing and the strong sense of community that exists here at Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd.
"Our school motto is 'Law yn Llaw, Anelwn yn Uchel' and this report shows exactly what can be achieved when a school community works hand in hand and aims high. We are incredibly proud of our pupils and grateful for the commitment of everyone who contributes to making our school such a positive and successful place to learn."
Chair of Governors Tara Jones said: "We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the inspection and proud that Estyn has recognised the many strengths of Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd. Of particular significance is the recognition of the school's commitment to promoting the Welsh language and Welsh identity, which are at the heart of our vision for every learner.
"As a Welsh-medium school, we are passionate about nurturing confident bilingual learners who are proud of their language, culture and heritage. The report highlights the dedication of our staff, pupils and families in creating a vibrant Welsh learning community, and we look forward to continuing to build on these strengths while taking forward the recommendations for further improvement."
The full inspection report will be published by Estyn.
