Powysland Museum reopens after £1m refurb

23/07/2026 @ 02:23

Powysland Museum has reopened following a £1million refurbishment project that had enhanced its whole area at the canal side location in Welshpool.

The Museum reopened on Monday with one gallery now fully accessible and work continuing on a second gallery that should be fully operational by August 14.

The news was shared by County Councillor Graham Breeze who was briefing the Town Council in his dual role as Chair of the Powysland Museum Trustees.

The museum shares the Y Lanfa building with the library, and the refurbishment, paid largely by Levelling Up money, has included the cottages located adjacent to the building.

“As Chair of the Powysland Museum Trustees, I have not been happy with the considerable delay in reopening but we seem to be getting somewhere at last,” said Cllr Breeze, who added that an event to celebrate its reopening would be announced soon.
