New CEO appointed to NPTC college group

NPTC Group of Colleges has appointed Catherine Lewis as its new Chief Executive Officer, a move that will see the experienced education leader take responsibility for the college group that includes its campus in Newtown.

Catherine, who is currently Principal of the college group, will take up the role in September following what the Corporation Board described as a highly competitive recruitment process. The Board said its decision to appoint her was unanimous after considering a strong external field of candidates.

The appointment is significant for learners and staff across the group's campuses, including Newtown, as the college continues to expand its role in supporting education, skills and employment opportunities across mid Wales.

The Corporation Board said it was confident Catherine's leadership, values and experience would help guide the organisation through its next phase of development.

Her appointment follows the announcement that current Chief Executive Officer Mark Dacey will step down later this year, bringing to an end a career spanning almost 40 years in further education, including nearly 23 years at the helm of NPTC Group of Colleges.

Reflecting on his time leading the college, Dacey said: "It has been a privilege to serve NPTC Group of Colleges and to be part of an institution with such a proud legacy, outstanding reputation and deep roots in the communities we serve. We are all custodians of something very special, built over generations through the commitment, dedication and expertise of our staff, Governors, learners and partners."

He added: "As I hand over, I do so with immense pride in what we have achieved together and with great confidence in the future. NPTC Group of Colleges is in safe hands. We are fortunate to have exceptional staff whose passion and professionalism continue to make a difference every day, and I am delighted that Catherine Lewis has been appointed as the next Chief Executive Officer.

"Catherine has already demonstrated her commitment to the College as the Principal and Deputy CEO for many years. She understands our values and ambitions, our communities, our mission and our potential, and I know she will provide the leadership needed to take the Group forward into its next chapter of success.

Catherine will officially begin her tenure as Chief Executive Officer in September. The college group operates campuses across south and mid Wales, including Newtown, where it provides further education, vocational training and apprenticeships for learners from across north Powys.
