Residents in the Newtown area can now buy locally produced peat-free compost from the town's Household Recycling Centre, made from garden waste collected from homes across Mid Wales.
The compost, which is also available at recycling centres in Lower Cwmtwrch, Brecon and Llandrindod Wells, has been made from garden waste collected from households and Household Recycling Centres before being processed at a specialist facility in Carmarthenshire.
Powys County Council says the organic compost is rich in natural nutrients and can help improve soil quality, encourage healthy plant growth and boost overall garden health.
Forty-litre bags are on sale for £3.50 each at the Newtown Household Recycling Centre.
Residents planning to buy compost are reminded that they must book a slot before visiting the recycling centre, in line with the council's normal booking system.
Richard Church, Cabinet Member for Legal and Regulatory Services, said: "It's great to see garden waste collected in Powys being turned into something practical and beneficial for residents. By recycling garden waste in this way, we are supporting a more sustainable, circular approach that reduces waste and creates a useful product for local gardens and green spaces.
"If you'd like to buy some compost, please book your visit to one of the participating Household Recycling Centres in the normal way, and help support a greener Powys while giving your garden a natural boost."
