A Newtown-based charity has highlighted the vital role played by its volunteers after revealing they contributed more than 4,600 hours of support over the past year.

Marking this year’s Volunteers’ Week 2026, Citizens Advice Powys said its volunteers helped the organisation support thousands of people across the county with issues including debt, housing, benefits and energy costs.

The charity, headquartered in Newtown, said it helped 3,964 people with 21,624 problems over the past year.

According to the organisation, volunteers donated more than 4,600 hours between 2025 and 2026, with their contributions estimated at £111,000.

Citizens Advice Powys said volunteers are an integral part of its service, working alongside staff to help meet growing demand for advice and support. The charity added that volunteers benefit from developing new skills, improving wellbeing and gaining a greater understanding of issues affecting local communities.

Chief Officer Yasmin Bell said: “I can’t thank our volunteers enough for their continued commitment and hard work. We are very proud of our highly skilled team and the crucial part they play in supporting our services.

“The support we provide makes such a difference to people’s lives. Access to our advice services is vital during these hard times. We are working hard to ensure that we continue to offer services to meet the increase in demand.”

She added: “We know that people find volunteering with us hugely rewarding. Whether it’s working as a team, learning new skills or campaigning on issues close to your heart, there are many fulfilling opportunities available. Citizens Advice is the people’s champion. If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.”

The charity is using Volunteers’ Week to thank its volunteer team and encourage others to consider getting involved.
