The Newtown and District Civic Society will hold its Annual General Meeting next month, followed by a talk exploring a key moment in the area’s political history.
The AGM will take place on Tuesday, 14 April at 2pm at the Crescent Christian Centre on Milford Road.
Following the meeting, at 2.30pm, a public talk will be given by Edward Parry titled “The 1880 Parliamentary Elections in Montgomeryshire: The Liberal Triumph.”
The presentation will look back at the 1880 general election and its impact on Montgomeryshire, a contest which saw a decisive victory for the Liberal Party during a period of significant political change across the UK.
The event is open to both members and non-members of the society, with a £3 entry fee for non-members.
