Berriew Football Club has raised £3,000 for The League of Friends to The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital following a sell-out charity event.

The club’s annual Ladies Lunch, held in November, attracted support from across the local community. This year organisers chose to support the League of Friends at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, known as RJAH, after many people connected to the club had received treatment there.

The Country and Western themed event featured a two course lunch, raffle and promise auction, followed by bingo and a disco. Volunteers and committee members helped run the afternoon, with local businesses and residents contributing prizes and support.

Victoria Sugden, Chief Executive of the League of Friends, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Berriew Football Club and to all those who attended the Ladies Lunch.

“Raising £3,000 is a fantastic achievement and this support will make a real difference to patients and staff at RJAH. It’s wonderful to see a local club choosing to support a charity so close to so many people’s hearts.”

Louise, Secretary of Berriew FC, said the choice of charity was a personal one.

“The hospital has supported so many people connected to our club, so choosing the League of Friends felt very personal and very important to us,” she said.

“The lunch was a brilliant day and we were overwhelmed by the support from our community. We’re delighted to be able to donate £3,000 and would like to thank everyone who helped make the event such a success.”

The League of Friends has supported the specialist orthopaedic hospital in Oswestry since 1961 through fundraising, donations and the provision of services, and is currently recruiting volunteers to join its team.
