Local residents are being invited to a free “Christmas Sharefest” at Hafan yr Afon in Newtown on Saturday, 6 December, from 10am to 1pm.
The event is being organised by Open Energy, a project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, and will build on previous swap events held in the town. It aims to cut waste in the run up to Christmas and promote the circular economy by encouraging people to swap good quality items rather than buy new.
The festive morning will include a swap shop featuring clothes, crafts and toys, giving people the chance to trade in items they no longer need for something “new-to-them” in time for Christmas. There will also be sustainable craft workshops for all ages, along with free cake and mince pies.
Families will be able to visit Santa in the café downstairs, making the Sharefest a wider community event at the riverside venue.
Organisers say everyone is welcome, including people who do not have items to swap but want to find out more about reuse, repair and other local sustainability projects.
