Television wildlife personality Iolo Williams was a guest of honour when Berriew Community Council opened its refurbished Woodland Walk in the heart of the village.
Thankfully the rain stopped just as Iolo carried out the formal opening with children from Berriew Primary School reading poems about what it meant to live in Berriew and the surrounding area.
After the ribbon cutting, the schoolchildren, pre-schoolers and adults who attended were treated to a nature trail around the woodland by Iolo which was informative, humorous and enjoyed by all.
The refurbishment work carried out so far has been partly funded by Powys County Council’s Local Places for Nature scheme and National Lottery Awards for All, with a lot of work carried out by the Community Council and local volunteers.
A spokesperson for Berriew Community Council said: “The Woodland Walk is still under development and we will continue to work hard to ensure it becomes diverse in flora and fauna and a peaceful place for quiet reflection, accessible to all. In the coming months there will be further exciting news about the area, so watch this space!”
