Local businesses are invited to take part in a Jobs Fair and Disability Confident Event at a Newtown school.
The event will take place at Ysgol Robert Owen on Plantation Lane, Newtown, on 25th March, from 9.00am to 12.30pm. It aims to connect employers with potential candidates from the local community, promoting inclusive hiring practices.
Organisers are encouraging businesses to highligt their commitment to diversity and ethical employment by booking a free exhibition stand.
"We want local businesses to show they are ethical employers that aim to attract, engage, and recruit individuals from diverse backgrounds," a spokesperson said. "Any interactive items you can bring to engage with the children would be appreciated."
The event will also feature presentations from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Business Wales Disabled Peoples Employment programme, and Working Wales.
These presentations will provide valuable advice and support, as well as information on wage incentives and funding for employing disabled people.
"Community benefits and social value are high on the agenda for local businesses in Powys," the spokesperson said. "Giving back to the community, improving your business’s reputation, and making you an employer of choice."
The Disability Confident Scheme, a UK government initiative, will be a key focus of the event. "By joining the Disability Confident initiative, you’ll not only gain a powerful logo and a prestigious certificate, but you’ll also embrace a movement that champions inclusivity and diversity in the workplace," the spokesperson added.
The Jobs Fair will then open to the public from 10.30am to 11.30am. After this, a conference room will be available for continued discussions on Disability Confident.
"As an employer, we believe that your organisation would be an excellent addition to the event," the spokesperson said. "Your participation will help highlight your company’s culture and vision." Networking opportunities will also be available throughout the event.
The school will provide refreshments, and ample parking is available. Businesses interested in booking a stand or a seat at the presentation are encouraged to email Rachael.haggan1@dwp.gov.uk
