Newtown resident Ida Mooney has celebrated her 105th birthday.
Family, friends, and the team at residential home, The Oaks, have all joined her to mark the special day.
Ida, who was born in St Annes, has lived a remarkable life. Back in the Second World War, she did her bit working on Wellington bombers at Blackpool Airport. She even remembers being knocked off her bike when planes dropped unused bombs on their way back.
After the war, Ida showed her talent by becoming a skilled carpet fitter, making huge 32-inch carpets for hotels in Blackpool. She even started her own business from a rented garage, becoming well known for her work.
Ida's passed her driving test at 55 and took up swimming in her 60s. She kept fit well into her 80s, and even helped out in her son's shoe repair shop, gluing shoes and lending a hand.
On her birthday, Ida was surrounded by family, resdients and staff as well as a card from the King.
Jen Roberts, the Home Manager at The Oaks, said, "It's been a real pleasure looking after Ida and celebrating this amazing milestone. She's a lovely lady, full of warmth and humour, and you can tell how much her family adore her. We're so happy she's part of our community."
