Residents, businesses, and local organisations are being urged to help a local church and charity raise money for people in need in Newtown this Christmas.
The Salvation Army has launched its annual Christmas appeal and wants to be able to provide vouchers for local families.
In the past the charity has asked for gifts, but it is asking for people to raise and donate money that can be used as vouchers.Sam Jones, Territorial Envoy running the church at Newtown, said:
“To help us fundraise maybe you, your friends or colleagues could hold a coffee morning, host a “wear a Christmas jumper day”, or donate instead of giving Christmas cards.
“Of those families helped by the ‘Be A Star’ appeal last year, one told me that having the support at Christmas for their family from the Salvation Army really helped. To receive a voucher for shopping and for the kids to have presents really made their Christmas.”
The Salvation Army is working closely with many agencies in the area and will place these vouchers in gift bags to be distributed in time for Christmas.
The Salvation Army Charity Shop and Prayer Space at 7-8 Market Street in Newtown will be collecting donations of gift vouchers for local stores, such as Charlies, No1 High Street and Argos.
