More street pastors are helping out on Newtown's streets

New street pastors are walking the streets of Newtown at night to help and support those out.

The pastors are organised by the Hope Church in Newtown and several more have recently been commissioned.

Newtown's Mayor, Cllr Peter Lewington, attended a recent commissioning event.

In a report to the town council, he said: "I gave a speech confirming the town council's support for the street pastors and thanking them for their commitment to keeping Newtown a safer and more peaceful place when on their patrols through their key principles of care, help and listen.

"I hope we will be welcoming them in the near future to a town council meeting to give all councillors an update on their work and services. I extended an invitation to them to join the Town Partnership which I hope they do and they did ask that the town council consider inviting them along to certain events such as the food festival, Kicking Off Christmas, if we believed their presence would be useful - something I would ask all lead councillors on projects to bear in mind."
