Newtown goes pink for breast cancer awareness

19/10/2024 @ 12:33

A pink flag is flying from the Newtown Town Council offices today to mark the "Wear it Pink" breast cancer awareness day, and lighting at St Mary's Church and on the town clock will also turn to the colour.

The awareness day is organised by Breast Cancer Now.

"The 'Wear It Pink' event on the 19th of October is to raise awareness for breast cancer. The colouration of the lighting and flag will benefit the event by providing eye-catching reminders and demonstrating the town's commitment to tackling breast cancer," said a council statement.

The flag will fly from the Town Council Building from Friday, August 18th, to Friday, August 25th, and this evening, pink lighting will take place at St Mary’s and on the clock face from Friday, August 18th, to Sunday, August 20th.

The town council now allows “Community Requests” for flags to be flown or commemorative lighting to be displayed on its buildings.
