Tragedy as new MP’s mother passes away

Montgomeryshire & Glyndwr’s new MP, Steve Witherden, has shared the tragic news that his mother has passed away.

Mr Witherden stormed to victory last week at the General Election to become the first Labour MP to serve Montgomeryshire, and only yesterday he reported that he was enjoying a “nerve-wracking” first day at Parliament.

But, this morning, he revealed that a close family member had suddenly passed away, and this evening he has confirmed that it was his mother, Sally.

He has issued the following statement: “I would like to give my personal thanks to the staff of Wrexham Maelor Hospital, especially Dr N McAndrew and his team for their respectful and sensitive treatment, and A&E nurse, Kathryn, whose compassion, professionalism and kindness helped make a difficult day that much more bearable.

“I will return to my duty as MP for Montgomeryshire & Glyndŵr as soon as possible but for now please may I beg some patience as I deal with my grief and support my family.

“Thank you for all the kind messages we have already received.”
