Eight candidates vie for council seat

Eight candidates are standing for a county council seat covering Tregynon.

A by-election was called for the Powys County Council Rhiwcynon ward following the resignation of Cllr Heulwen Hulme.

The candidates are Richard Edward Amy, Welsh Liberal Democrats; Ann Jones, Plaid Cymru; Richard Breese Jones, Independent; Oliver Lewis, Reform UK; David Markinson, Independent; Rhodri Parfitt, The Green Party; Paul Wixey, Welsh Labour; John Yeomans, Welsh Conservatives.

Voting for the one available seat will take place on Tuesday, 4 June.

A county council statement said: "Anyone who isn’t registered to vote have until Thursday, May 16, 2024 in order to vote in this election. To register to vote visit www.gov.uk/registertovote
 
"Electors should take note that applications to vote by post or requests to change or cancel an existing application must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells by 5pm on Friday, May 17, 2024.
 
"Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells by 5pm on Friday, May 24, 2024. Proxy applications can be found at www.powys.gov.uk/elections ."
