Air ambulance base preferred option to be revealed

News on the future of north Powys's air ambulance base could be made public this week.

It is understood the Chief Ambulance Services Commissioner, Stephen Harrhy, will present the option following the public consultation into the plans to review services in Mid and North Wales that could result in the Welshpool Airport base being closed.

The Wales Air Ambulance charity revealed last year that it wanted to close its Welshpool and Caernarfon bases in favour of a new base in north east Wales.

The charity said that data showed it would mean more lives would be saved, but critics have since found the data to be flawed and that a move would provide little to no benefit.

A massive public backlash followed and for the past year there have been two rounds of independent public consultations led by Chief Ambulance Services Commissioner, Stephen Harrhy.

The second phase included several options on the table for the public to consider.

The final ‘preferred option’ will be presented this week with campaigners holding their breath for the right outcome to keep the base in Welshpool.

“A stakeholder briefing will be issued this week providing an update on the EMRTS Service Review,” a spokesperson told us.
