Could new bus routes be on the way in the area?

A project is underway to receive comments from community, town and Powys county councillors on their aspirations for bus transport from 2025.

Newtown Town Council will consider the matter on Monday. It is part of a retendering project due to go out for the bus network throughout Powys.

The Regional Local Bus Service Project Officer at Powys County Council has contacted the town council for individual views on bus routes in Newtown and to other destinations in the area.

The letter states: "I have recently been appointed as the project officer for the upcoming retendering for the local bus network in 2025.

"As such, I am looking for each county councillor and community councillor to consider what local bus services in their area might look like. These may well be aspirational, but all suggestions are welcome.

"Please includeany areas that you seel are not currently serviced by the bus network and from which you believe your community would benefit, including reasons for the bnefit and, indeed, where appropriate numbers of those who would likely use such a service."

It added: "Whilst we value all suggestions, we cannot commit to being able to implement everything a community may wish for. We will, however, consider everything carefully."

Councillors have until 30 June to respond.
