Newtown's street market is still struggling

Newtown's street market is still struggling and suffering from a lack of shoppers coming to the town on Tuesdays.

Newtown Town Council, which manages the Charter Market, has been attempting to revitalise it to attract more stalls and shopprs.

In a recent report, town councillors were told the poor weather over recent months had also hampered the market.

The report states: "The market has suffered from the particularly bad weather this year but the main problem identified was the lack of footfall at the market and in the town in general.

"There have been various posts to promote the charter market on
social media but to little effect so far. A Young Traders market is being arranged again this year on Tuesday 18th June."

The town council is expected to continue in its attempts to attract more stalls to the market after it was reported previously that it lacked a fruit and vegetable stall.
