Urdd doubles exits following opening day traffic chaos

Organisers of the Urdd Eisteddfod near Meifod have reacted to last night’s traffic problems by doubling the number of exits at the site.

Readers complained of two-hour waits to depart the site as thousands packed the fields on the opening day.

“Our site safety team has doubled the number of exits from Urdd Eisteddfod car parks from today onwards,” a spokesperson said.

“When leaving the car parks, we ask everyone to follow the signs to the new exits as well as follow the advice of the stewards and the police.

“Apologies once again for any inconvenience caused to visitors yesterday.

“We look forward to the rest of the Eisteddfod.”

But there’s been heavy showers overnight and this morning to add to the challenges, with the fields starting to turn into mud baths.

Mike Jones of Welshpool Taxis warned this morning: “Just dropped off at the Urdd site, gonna be fun getting in and out later as three of us needed a push to get out the field already due to heavy mud!”
