Newtown young people urged to help shape council strategy

Young people in Newtown are being encouraged to have their say on how Powys County Council involves them in decisions affecting their lives.

There is still time for residents aged under 25 to respond to the council’s final consultation on its ‘Your Voice Matters’ Young People’s Engagement Strategy.

The strategy aims to make it easier for young people in Newtown and across Powys to speak up, be listened to and play an active role in shaping council decisions.

Developed by a cross-departmental working group, it has already been shaped by the voices and ideas of young people from across the county.

Councillor Jake Berriman, council leader and cabinet member for people, performance and partnerships, said: “We want every young person in Powys to feel heard, valued and able to influence the decisions that affect their lives.

“This final consultation is a really important opportunity for young people to shape how we work with them in the future.

“Their views will help shape the way we work with young people across Powys, making sure they feel heard, included and confident to get involved.

“I would encourage all young people to take a few minutes to get involved and help us get this right.”

Newtown’s young people can complete the survey through the Have Your Say Powys website www.haveyoursaypowys.wales/your-voice-matters-powys 

Paper copies can also be downloaded or collected from a Powys library. Completed forms can be returned to library staff or scanned and emailed to haveyoursay@powys.gov.uk.

The consultation closes on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Feedback will be used to refine the strategy before it is published in the autumn.
