A lorry has overturned on the A483 Newtown bypass this afternoon, adding to a string of similar incidents at the same spot on the Welshpool-end roundabout.
The vehicle, belonging to Huws Gray, tipped onto its side while negotiating the roundabout and came to rest at the Welshpool junction island. Although there are no reports of serious injuries at this stage, emergency services attended the scene and are managing traffic.
Local roads users reported traffic continuing to flow earlier this afternoon, but diversion and congestion are increasing as recovery plans are put in place. Recovery teams are expected to close the carriageway later today to allow lifting equipment to safely right the lorry and clear debris.
This section of the bypass has become notorious for heavy vehicles, with numerous overturns recorded on the same island since the roundabout opened in recent years.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area where possible and follow any instructions from traffic officers and road signage as crews work to reopen the road.
