Abuse of traffic wardens “will not be tolerated”

15/12/2025 @ 09:25

Powys County Council has issued a festive warning that anyone abusing their traffic wardens will face the long arm of the law, with body camera footage available to help prosecute.

The authority has ‘civil enforcement officers’ covering all towns across the county, but they have become a target of abuse from angry parkers who have been caught out.

Some motorists though have said in response to the warning on social media that traffic wardens can be a bit too sharp to slap on a ticket, with one alleging that his wife was caught whilst still in her car.

But the law is the law and Powys has warned motorists that they have adopted a zero-tolerance towards abuse with the Christmas season upon us.

“Our civil enforcement officers play an important role in making streets safe and free from obstructions, ensuring carparks are used correctly and spaces are made available, and keeping traffic flowing,” Powys said in their warning statement.

“Abuse – whether physical or verbal – is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated. Body cameras record any altercations, and footage is always passed to the police for further action. Please treat everybody respectfully and fairly.”
