Charity colour run returns later this month

13/09/2024 @ 10:50

A charity colour run is returning to north Powys following an inuagural event in Newtown last year which raised £15,000.

The Lingen Davies Colour Run will take place near Caersws on 29 September. t follows the same event taking place in Dolerw Park in September last year.

The 5k run is taking place at Meadow Springs Country and Leisure Park in Ffinnant, near Casersws, Powys, and organisers are hoping to see bumper crowds.

Emilie Kerr, Events Marketing Coordinator at Lingen Davies, said: “We are thrilled to be able to bring our popular colour run back to Mid Wales.

“It is always a popular, fabulously messy fun day and everyone has a big smile on their face.

“We’re looking forward to seeing those who took part last year return and have just as much fun again, as well as those taking part for the first time as they all raise much-needed funds to help support local cancer services.

“It’s been described as the happiest 5k in the world and I think that’s spot on! We’re already looking forward to it and I would encourage everyone who wants to take part to apply as soon as possible as we know it will once again be a popular event so they need to grab their places before they all go.”

Individuals, families, and businesses across the region have already helped raise more than £100,000 to help the charity improve the lives of those affected by cancer across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales by taking part in previous events since 2020.

These have been held at Sansaw Estate in Hadnall, the Shropshire County Showground in Shrewsbury, Apley Estate in Norton, near Shifnal - which recently raised in excess of £11,000 on its own - and the first Mid Wales one which took place in Parc Dolerw, Newtown, last year.

The charity opened its new base in Powys last year based at Plas Dolerw in Newtown, but has been helping the people of Mid Wales since its inception 45 years ago.

Since opening the Mid Wales hub, the charity has recruited more than 200 Cancer Champions (volunteers who are trained and supported to have conversations about cancer) trained local health sector staff to help those affected by cancer, set up a fundraising committee in the area and been shortlisted as finalists for the Powys Business Awards.

“We are really enjoying the work we are doing and the impact we are having on the people of Mid Wales, it has been great to have such a warm welcome from the community and be able to improve the lives of so many affected by cancer,” Emilie added.

“We know there are plenty of businesses that decide to take part in a Lingen Davies Colour Run as a team building exercise and we would encourage more to do just that.

“I would also like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors for the Mid Wales Colour Run, WRPartners, Salop Leisure, EvaBuild, and Castel Howell Foods, because without them this event simply wouldn’t happen.

“It is always great seeing how much fun people have whether they are doing the challenge with colleagues, friends or family - it is open to everyone and a great way to help Lingen Davies continue to provide the services we do and offer even more services to anyone affected by cancer.”Lingen Davies Cancer Fund supports those impacted by cancer throughout Mid Wales and Shropshire and will hold its second colour run in Mid Wales, following the huge success of the inaugural event last year which raised more than £15,000 to fund local cancer services and projects.

Registration is £23 for adults and £8.50 for the under 12s and anyone who signs up gets a Colour Run pack which has a t-shirt and sunglasses in, family tickets are also available. Lingen Davies asks adults to raise £50 and children to raise £25 when taking part if possible - but anything participants can raise is appreciated.
