Young carers are set to benefit from a mammoth 225 mile cycle challenge between Hampshire and near Newtown.

Cyclists, including the well known Sigrid the cat and his guardian Travis, Sir Jim Smith, President of the Zoological Society, and former professional athlete Julian Goater, will be taking part in the ride in aid of the Honeypot charity.

Places are still available by visiting www.honeypot.org.uk/house-to-house

The charity has a respite home near Newtown where young carers aged between five and 12 years of age can stay. The cyclists will be heading for the property from another respite centre run by Honeypot in the New Forest.

"More than testing your cycle skills you can combine your cycling with helping some of the most disadvantaged children in the UK. Some of the children Honeypot support care for over 50 hours a week for a disabled or unwell parent or sibling," said a statement.

"You can help Honeypot to continue to provide Residential Respite Breaks at Houses specifically designed for children, Educational Booster Programmes to help them excel in Education.

"They also do grants for essential life items and Memory Making Days to theme parks or even a first trip to the Seaside! It’s all about helping Children, who take on responsibilities well beyond their years, allowing them to have a break, make happy memories and build a brighter future."

The House to House ride begins on 1 August and continues until 4 August. "Riders will experience the changing countryside, from rolling hills to scenic valleys, all while supporting young carers and raising awareness," said a spokesperson.

The cyclists will be waved off at 10.30am by Mia, who cares for her two brothers who have Duchenne's. They will arrive in Pen y Bryn, by 1pm on 4 August.
