Children’s Laureate Wales set for Monty Minifest

25/03/2026 @ 09:58

Last year, Monty Lit Fest launched its first children’s book festival in honour of the much-missed Jill Kibble of Montgomery, and its second edition looks like being a page turner.

Held in association with Firefly Press, specialist publishers of writing for children, Monty Minifest is delighted thatNicola Davies, the new Children’s Laureate, Wales will be headlining the event on Sunday, June 14.

Nicola Davies will close the Mini Fest talking about her books, Skrimsli and The Song That Sings Us, as well as sharing her work as the Children’s Laureate, Wales.

Minifest starts with Storytime for the Under 7’s, followed by Sharon Marie Jones chatting about her Grace-Ella series of books featuring a young witch.

Rhiannon Oliver tells us about her debut poetry book for the over 8’s, Fresh, which has been wonderfully illustrated by none other than Chris Riddell.

Then we hear from Emma Rea about her book, Entangled, which is set in fabulous Venice.

All sessions will be interactive, with a chance for the audience to ask questions, and will be followed by a book signing session facilitated by Booka Bookshop.

Tickets are now on sale after a great night, where the Daily Mail book reviewer and Lit Fest favourite, Marcus Berkmann, launched both festivals with a thoroughly entertaining Big Quiz night.

See the full Minifest programme at montylitfest.com where you can also see the main festival programme and sign up for the newsletter.

Tickets will be available via the website or locally from the Bookshop and Ivy Cafe/Post Office, both in Montgomery.
