Stunning ‘Britain at War’ exhibition to take place next year

04/09/2025 @ 11:25

Welshpool will host a remarkable and moving exhibition in 2026 entitled Britain at War, which will feature an incredible 80-metre yarn.

The awe-inspiring display of knitted and crocheted scenes pays tribute to the country’s men and women who took part in the war, capturing history’s most significant moments through the art of yarn crafting.

The exhibition, which will tour both nationally and internationally, showcases intricately detailed depictions of the events that shaped the war, and will come to Welshpool for the entire month of September 2026. It is thought that Welshpool will be one of just two Welsh 2026 destinations for the exhibition.

Organiser Alan Crowe told Welshpool Town Council at last night’s Events and Planning meeting that he visited a similar display at Peterborough Cathedral which had attracted visitors from across the country.

“It really will be a remarkable piece of work that I am confident will prove very popular if we get the advertising right,” said Mr Crowe, who also heads the organising committee for the town’s 1940s Weekend, which takes place later this month.

The Town Council committee agreed to lease the Town Hall to Mr Crowe for the entire month.
