Volunteers are needed for a Tidy Newtown campaign

21/02/2025 @ 11:15

Newtown residents are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and get involved in a major community cleanup as part of the ‘Tidy Newtown’ campaign.

Groups, individuals, and community groups can sign up to take part in the official event.

The initiative, running from 31st March to 5th April, is part of the nationwide ‘Spring Clean Cymru’ effort to make the town cleaner, safer, and more visually appealing for everyone.

Organised by Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council, the campaign aims to bring residents together to tackle litter and waste across rural and urban spaces.

The council is working closely with Powys County Council Housing Department and Keep Wales Tidy to ensure the success of the project.

Throughout the week, volunteers will be divided into teams and assigned to specific ward areas to target litter hotspots. The focus will be on cleaning parks, playgrounds, public gardens, and other key community spaces, with additional support from local organisations to establish new partnerships and broaden the initiative’s reach.

Collected waste will be sorted into recyclable, compostable, and non-recyclable materials and disposed of responsibly through local waste management services.

The campaign will also involve local schools and colleges, encouraging young people to play an active role in improving their community.

Town councillors from all wards are expected to lend their support, helping to drive forward community-led initiatives that aim for a long-lasting environmental impact.

Those interested can sign up by registering online here.
