Phil reveals new 10k challenge for 2025, and you can join in!

The local man who galvanised the area behind his 10k challenge earlier this year for Parkinson’s UK Cymru has revealed that he is going to go one better in 2025, and we can all join in!

Our sister site MyWelshpool joined Phil Jones when he launched his fundraising bid to run 10k a day for seven days, and he raised a whopping £10,000 for the charity.

He went on to run six more 10ks in various locations and was joined by schools, organisations and even TV star Iolo Williams, who waved off one of his runs.

Now, we are all being invited to join him again, after Phil revealed he will be doing eight 10k runs in March.

“A gym conversation two years ago has led to a truly community event,” said Phil. “The next challenge will begin on Sunday, March 16, and concludes with the final run at the Welshpool 10K race on Sunday, March 23.”

By extending the challenge by the day, and expanding the local involvement, Phil and his team are now targeting a higher final total.

“The event has three aims which primarily centres on raising the awareness of the illness, as well as encouraging people to exercise, which is proven to delay the onset of Parkinson’s, and finally raising money which will support Parkinson’s service and support in Wales,” he said, explaining how it all came about.

“During a PT session at Great Fitness Gym with trainer Charlie (Proctor), we discussed the plan to run a 10k every day for a week and the 10x7 Challenge was launched.

“Several of the gym members signed up for one or more of the events, with some walking the distance. Others used the treadmill or even rowed the distance.

“Next year the event has been extended by the eight runs and also includes sessions with Maldwyn Harriers, Welshpool RFC and the Newtown Park Run.

“We will also be hosting several schools at our run at Gregynog Hall with senior staff from the Charity in attendance and have scheduled runs at Newtown College. We are also looking at including Welshpool HS in our plans.”

Great Fitness have again stepped up to sponsor and further sponsors will be announced soon.
