An event to shout about!

The area is in for a treat next month when the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers Championship is being held in Wales for the first time from September 13-15.

Hosted in Montgomery by its town crier, Susie Blower (pictured), the participants will be competing for the silver George Carpenter trophy.

It is being held on Broad Street in the centre of the town with local businesses all preparing for plenty of visitors to enjoy a historic and exciting event.

“This will be a spectacular, colourful event, with varied cries about the individual criers’ home towns, so let’s give them all a warm welcome,” said Susie.

Judging will be based on volume, diction, content, amongst other things as well as Best Dressed Crier and consort.

Susie is being supported by the Montgomery Town Council but is seeking sponsorship to assist with accommodation, hosting and running costs.
