Peak charity performance for two businesses

Employees from local companies Lowfield Timber Frames and SJ Roberts Construction have completed the National Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours, raising £10,706 for Lingen Davies Cancer Support.

A team of 18 walkers, supported by four drivers and mascot Bernie the bear, climbed the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales on July 11.

The challenge took them up Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, with heatwave conditions adding to the physical and mental demands of the event.

Team members spent months training and raising money through personal fundraising initiatives, sponsorship and support from the wider community.

The money will go towards the Lingen Davies Sunflower Appeal, a £5 million campaign supporting the development of a new cancer centre at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Expected to open by 2029, the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre will operate alongside existing chemotherapy services at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. It is intended to double chemotherapy capacity across the region and enable more patients to receive treatment closer to home.

Emma Vaughan, marketing executive at Lowfield Timber Frames, organised the challenge.

She said: “It has been amazing to raise so much money for Lingen Davies over the years, but it was a real honour to organise and deliver such a great event.

“Seeing so many colleagues commit themselves to months of training, fundraising and then pushing through one of the toughest challenges we’ve ever taken on was incredibly rewarding.

“Completing the National Three Peaks Challenge in under 24 hours was no easy feat, but every blister, sore muscle and early start was worth it knowing the difference these funds will make. I couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved.”

Lowfield Timber Frames and SJ Roberts Construction thanked everyone who donated, sponsored or otherwise supported the challenge.

The result takes the companies’ combined fundraising total for the year to more than £14,000, with further events planned.
