Harriers’ Super Sunday

08/02/2016 @ 11:27

It was a Super Sunday for Maldwyn Harriers' senior runners as they bagged individual and team honours at the culmination of the Herefordshire Cross-Country Winter League series at Nash Wood, Presteigne.

Tim Davies and Nicola Davies comfortably won their respective races to claim the overall and senior men's and women's titles while Maldwyn Harriers also took the men's team title - the first time in the league's history that the trophy has left England.

As well as Tim - who won all four of his races - Bryan Arthur, Martin Copus, Ed Davies Roger Farrington, Anthony Powell, Glen Speake and Todd Tanner all scored in one or more races to ensure team victory.

Nicola meanwhile spearheaded Maldwyn's women to fifth place in the final standings, which represented a big improvement on last year.

The club's senior cross-country team captain Ifan Jones was delighted with the outcome and said: "Although attention is bound to focus on the outstanding achievements of Nicola and Tim, this has been a great team effort with more than 30 Harriers having taken part over the course of the season.

“Even when we have been short of key runners due to injury or unavailability, others have stepped in and ran superbly over some of the toughest courses. The spirit in the camp could not have been better and, on behalf of Maldwyn Harriers, I would like to thank everyone involved.”

There were more reasons for the Harriers to celebrate as Kaya Saul and Todd Tanner took the Under 17 and Under 20 men's titles while Martin Green won the Men's over 55 series.

Bryan Arthur (Over 45) and Chris Copus (Over 60) were second in their respective categories and Julia Ellis finished third in the women's Over 45 section.
