Guest rider takes Hafren TT

Guest rider Gary Duncan adapted best to the wet conditions to take the latest round of the Hafren TT summer series.

Held on the Welshpool 10-mile route, Duncan won in a time of 23 minutes 20 seconds, to finish eight seconds clear of Hafren rider Ian Coe.

Second on the Hafren podium was Graham Harris in 23:45mins, with Pete Thomas in third just a further second back.

The result opened up the summer series with Coe and Harris hitting form with the championship going into the second half just as Thomas had threatened to run away with it.

In the ladies competition again it was a guest rider who took top spot with Ceris Eslava stopping the clock at 26:57mins. Sahrah Wilding took the top spot on the Hafren CC podium in 29:08mins, toppling regular winner Jackie Harris by just two seconds. Rounding out the podium was Louise Downward who sadly just failed to break the 30-minute mark by four seconds. Diane Paul (34:29) also finished in a personal best time on the night.

Young Callum Stait, 12, posted a credible time on his first outing at a Hafren time trial, with his 33:28mins surely a precursor of greater things to come. More youngsters are invited to race but 12 is the minimum age on open roads.

The next event is the Newtown 12.5-mile time trial on Wednesday night, meeting at the Town Centre Car Park with sign on from 6:156:45pm and first rider off at 7pm.
