21/05/2015 @ 09:31

St Giles Club Captain Ian Jones claimed the prestigious Woosnam Cup with an excellent victory in the 36-hole event.

George Evans held the 18-hole lead after carding an opening round of 67 to hold a three-shot lead from Mike Davies and a further shot ahead of Jones with his one over par 71.

Evans was unable to hold onto his lead as the pack hunted him down in the second round and Jones produced a one under par 69 for a 36-hole total of 140 to claim his first major title.

Second went to youngster Connor Owen with rounds of 72 and 71 whilst Evans had to settle for third, also on 143.

This Saturday is the J.T. Hughes (Honda) May medal with tee-off times at 9am and 1pm.

Meanwhile at Lakeside, the Summer League saw Alan Davies (11) victorious on 20 pts.

Second went to Cifford Pryce (18) with 19, third and beaten on the countback was David Salisbury (28).

In the Gross, star performer Charlie Reynolds (6) won on 16 which put an end to Davies's hopes of a net gross double as he finished second on the countback. Third was Marius Van Lill (8) with 14.

The next competition is the Team Championship on May 31 and teams of four are needed with full details on the club notice board.
