Four in Wales squash team

Four youngsters from Mid Wales have been selected to represent Wales on the international squash courts.

Max Miles-Owen (12) from Newtown, Dan (10) and Ryan Lewis (12) from Llanfyllin along with Aberystwyth’s Rhys Evans will travel to the Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh for the Home Nations Tournament.

The four will compete for Wales Under-13s against England, Scotland, Ireland and France between March 13-15.

The boys recently took the runners-up spot in the Junior Team of The Year Awards at the Montgomeryshire Sports Awards

last week Ryan Lewis Wales No 1 and Max Miles-Owen Wales No 2 competed in the four day French Open. Ryan finished 13 and Max 28 out of a strong 64 field of boys from all over Europe.

A parent of one of the youngsters said the youngsters were all products of local clubs, coaches and leisure centres.

“Thanks go to Powys Sports Development unit and Wales Squash & Racketball and in particular Matt James and Mike Workman who have made all the difference to the success of squash across the region,” said Ashley Owen.
