Former Newtown and Caersws midfielder Ross Stephens has ended a four and a half year stint at Prestatyn Town by returning to Aberystwyth.

The 29-year-old Llanidloes-born midfielder made Welsh Premier appearances for Caersws in 2003/4 during a loan spell from Shrewsbury Town.

Released from the Gay Meadow after a loan period at Redditch United, he signed on a permanent basis for the Bluebirds in June 2005.

A Welsh Under-18 and Under-20 international, Stephens moved to Rhyl in January 2007.

However, he decided to quit at the end of the season and signed for Welshpool Town, but moved on to Aberystwyth in January 2009 before switching to Newtown in the summer of the same year. After a season at Latham Park, he moved to Bastion Gardens in May 2010 and has scored 76 goals from a career total of 281 (+21) WPL appearances.

Prestatyn manager Neil Gibson says he did not want Stephens to leave, but the player requested a move and they did not wish to stand in his way.
