Proven Welsh Premier League goal scorer Jamie Reed has signed for Newtown.

After losing Jason Oswell to Stockport County, boss Chris Hughes has reacted quickly to secure the signings of  Reed, who spent last season at Llandudno and Bangor City.

Hughes believes the signing is a big statement for the Robins. He said: "We're over the moon to get Jamie, we've been after him for a couple of years, he's a proven goalscorer and that is just what we were looking for.

"He's hungry, wants to come here and score goals and that's what we believe he can do. He's had a good career and brings with him a lot of experience. It shows how far we have come that players like this want to come to Newtown."

Reed began his career with Wrexham and has played for a range of clubs including  Glentoran and Colwyn Bay before spending time plying his trade in Australia. His first spell in the Welsh Premier League came with Bangor City, before playing in the English system with Tamworth and York, who he gained promotion to League Two with.

Stints at Cambridge and Chester followed, before he returned to the Welsh system with TNS. In recent seasons he has also turned out for Aberystwyth Town, Llandudno and Bangor, where he spent last season.
