Airbus winger James Murphy has become Newtown's first summer signing giving the Welsh Premier League side's fans a boost after several key departures from Latham Park.

Murphy arrives at the club after spending two years in the Airbus first team, where he scored four goals in 35 starts and 21 substitute appearances.

After graduating from the Airbus academy, he was named the Welsh Premier League young player of the year for his performances in the 2015/16 season. In his second season the club were relegated, with Murphy now opting to stay in the division and join the Robins.

Boss Chris Hughes was delighted to make the 20-year-old his first new addition, and strengthen in an area he targeted at the start of the window.

Hughes said: "James is an exciting signing, he's a good young player who is our type of player and fits the mould for us He's direct and will take people on.

"James is different to what we have already and will offer us a different dimension."

Hughes also confirmed further signings will be announced later this week.
