Andy’s winning farewell to the hills

Forden runner Andy Davies has kept his head down since his incredible 16th place at the London Marathon in April, but he has been training harder than ever.

And the proof is in this weekend’s performance where he led home a quality field at an international trail race in France by a whopping six minutes!

Running in the vest of Wales, Andy smashed the 26km Trail de Guerledan, in Brittany, in a time of one hour and 56.06 seconds to ensure his team also came out on top on the day.

“That is probably it for me this year on the trail running,” said Andy. “I will focus now on the roads and try to get some more speed in the legs this summer.”

Next up for Andy, a lecturer at Newtown college, is the Podium 5k in Burnley next week, followed by the Alderly Edge Bypass 10km and Sale Sizzler 5km in July.

His next major race is the Cardiff Half in October.

Andy is waiting to hear if he has been selected for the Wales marathon team to compete at next year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast having ran the required qualifying time in London.
