"Giggsy" leaving Latham Park

Long-serving Newtown sports therapist Wayne Peter (Giggsy) is leaving Newtown for a new role with Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints.

Peter has worked for the club since Bernie McNally was appointed as first team boss and prior to that played youth football for the Latham Park club.

Combined with his role as Sports Therapist for the club, he has worked for Shrewsbury Town, with the Welsh FA, with the Commonwealth Games cycling team, and runs a gym in Oswestry.

In a statement, he said: "It is hugely emotional leaving Newtown after so many fantastic years. We endured the bad times but grew through them as a team, to produce some exceptional times.

"I will always be proud to be part of my home town club and will miss it immensely.

"Thank you to the board, staff, players, and supporters, I can truly say I would not be where I am in my career without them giving me the opportunity.

"I have some amazing memories with some amazing people who always kept believing, but a new challenge has arisen which I feel I need to take.

"I'm looking forward to the future and wish everyone at Newtown all the very best in football and life."

Newtown secretary Owen Durbridge said: “The club would like to thank Giggsy for his service to the club.”
