Newtown bowler Craig Davies produced a sensational spell of bowling to destroy Wellington in the Shropshire Cricket League’s Division One.

Davies took a superb 8-14 from 9.3 overs to reduce the hosts to just 35 all out, which was easy pickings for Newtown’s openers who guided them through to a 10-wicket win.

It was a fine day too for Montgomery who picked up crucial Division Two points after a big win at home to Willey.

Put into bat, it was Monty’s mid-order who did the damage with James Corfield (65no), Sam Williams (40) and Joe Haycock (40) steering the hosts through to 187-7.

The bowlers then took control, with Harry Wilkinson (4-9) leading the way as the visitors were dismissed for just 86.

Welshpool missed out on crucial Division Two points after being frustrated by Iscoyd & Fenns Bank. Setting a target of 141, Welshpool couldn’t quite dismiss the visitors who held out on 125-9.

In Division Four, Guilsfield kept their title charge alive with a win over leaders St George III. Guilsfield were dismissed for 125 with Dave Lewis (41) and Sam Birch (40) leading the way, but it was Dan Brown (4-17) and Rob Owen (4-26) that produced match winning stints to reduce the hosts to 61 all out.

In the Reserve Divisions, Montgomery II were set 194 to chase at Willey II but fell 35 runs short despite a fine all round display from Rob Yewdall who took 6-30 and also hit 50.

In Reserve Division Three, Welshpool II chased down Allscott II’s 153 with Rob Davies making 61, while Newtown II also chased down St George 4th’s 158-6 thanks to Chris Bound (53no) and Ricky Davies (43no).
